Into the woods

“Stories about trees”

The series “Into the Woods” consists of three paintings made with water-mixable oil paint on recycled cardboard. These paintings depict trees and forests and serve to reflect the artist’s perspective on nature and man’s impact on it. What defines true, unadulterated nature, and how does human influence shape it?

Furthermore, the artist’s exploration of the various characteristics of cardboard is an integral part of their work. As their research continued, cardboard became their canvas of choice, revealing its unique ‘wrinkle’ properties as an artistic basis for figurative pieces. In this oeuvre, the artist uses a new technique, using the layering of corrugated cardboard to enhance the properties of the material in their figurative compositions. These techniques breathe life into the artwork, emphasizing the inherent qualities of the material and adding depth to the artistic expression.

These works also served as visual accompaniments to poems written by children about trees.
