Discover the Soul of the Forest in Recycled Cardboard Masterpieces
‘Botanical Tales’
Kasteel Groeneveld, Baarn The Netherlands
Discover the artistry of Inge Prins van Wijngaarden at Museum Kasteel Groeneveld in Baarn, Netherlands, as they delve into the world of tree blessing, a technical marvel integral to the art of forest management. Commissioned by State Forestry (Staatsbosbeheer), this solo exhibition is a unique translation of the intricate practice of marking trees with dots and stripes. Each mark tells a story, and not every tree marked is destined for the saw. Trees can be designated as “future trees” or receive markings that signify their importance in providing habitat and sustenance for the diverse flora and fauna that thrive on decaying wood.
Within their captivating works, Inge Prins van Wijngaarden offers a distinctive perspective on the art of blessing, exploring the profound decisions that forest wardens make. For a forest warden, it all begins with the approach to each forest type. Does the forest and its trees require ample or minimal light? The seven most prevalent tree species in the Netherlands, each with its own unique characteristics, play a pivotal role in every decision.

In these stunning artworks, the artist breathes life into each tree by portraying its distinctive characteristics. Every stroke, every shape, and every hue is a canvas for the essence of these remarkable trees. Their commitment to sustainability shines through, as all the art pieces are skillfully crafted from recycled cardboard.
Join us in this artistic journey through the world of tree blessing, where nature and art converge in harmony. Inge Prins van Wijngaarden invites you to explore the soul of the forest, one blessing at a time.
